Thanks to a grant from Suffolk Couty Council the charity was able to re-open the Centre in April 2016 but only on a limited number of days.
The sharp decline in the income from recyclate along with increased disposal costs has forced upour gate charges which now alsoinclude VAT.
Newmarket Open Door had agreed to take over the local Household Waste Recycling Centre in response to its proposed closure in July 2011 but with the severe changes in market conditions the site was no longer viable and closed in September 2015.
We accept materials for recycling and reselling to support the charity, and also recieve other waste for which we make a charge to meet the costs of disposing of it through the commercial facilities available to us.
Items for recycling accepted free of charge include:
Glass, metals, paper and cardboard, mobile phones, toner cartridges, car batteries - plus any items that can be sold at the Open Door Superstore around the corner in Craven Way.
We welcome people to the facility at Depot Road in Newmarket between 10 and 4 Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday..
Charges are made for to recoup the costs of disposal which include recyclables, such as wood and green garden waste as well as general household waste, plastics and non-reusable furniture.
Charges are now based on weight and volume of individual items or loads
