| The
Charity Superstore retails donated goods and provides a
furniture collection and delivery service with
assistance from volunteers and trainees. Open Door aims
to raise funds and provide informal training and support
to disadvantaged people who may between jobs, recovering
from illness or substance misuse, and give them a home
in the world of work. |
| Where are
we? |
| The Charity
Superstore is situated on an industrial estate owned by
Forest Heath District Council at Unit 2 Craven Way, Newmarket,
the first turning off Depot Road before the Household
Waste Recycling Centre. |
| When are we
open? |
| Our opening times
are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm
Saturdays. We are not open Sundays or Bank
Holidays. |
| What
do we sell? |
| Open Door retails a variety of items including a
wide range of furniture including sofas, beds,
wardrobes, chests of drawers, bedside cabinets, dressing
tables, armchairs, computer and office desks, dining
room tables, chairs, wall units, coffee tables,
bookcases……
There is also a wide
selection of clean clothing, bedding, curtains, table
lamps, china, cutlery, glasses, pictures, mirrors,
books, videos, music cassettes, records and all manner
of bric-a-brac.
If someone made it then
we have had it, got it or may get it. Requests can be
made. |
| How
do you donate? |
| You are welcome to bring items to the Superstore
during opening times. Donors often make a trip to the
Recycling Centre but first offer it to Open
Door.
For those who need help
in transporting donations, especially furniture, Open
Door will arrange a collection from Monday to Friday
between 9am and 4pm. Collections outside of these times
are also possible but not easy for us to
organise.
Call 01638 660900 to
book a collection. We offer pick-ups within an
hour on an agreed date in order to try and minimise any
disruption to your normal routine and to make effective
use of our van. Should there be last minute problems we
will telephone you to
re-book. |
| Where do we
collect from? |

| Our
collection catchment area is generally from Cambridge in
the West to Bury in the East and to Ely and Mildenhall
in the North to Haverhill in the
South. |

Deliver! |
| We
charge for deliveries: Ł5 for Newmarket and immediate
villages, Ł10 for a ten-mile radius and then at an
agreed price for further afield.

| We
can repair it! |
| Open Door operates WoodWorks! and can repair
damaged or worn furniture in the wood workshop. We can
also reupholster small items and replace non-fire
labelled foam. |
| How
can you join us? |
| All volunteers and trainees complete an
application form and are interviewed and receive
induction training. Some trainees are referred by
support agencies and organisations such as West Suffolk
Mind, Community Mental Health Team, local schools for
work experience and Suffolk
Acre. |
| When
can you volunteer? |
| You can volunteer any time between 9 am
to 5 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am to 4pm
Saturdays. Hours are flexible to suit the volunteers and
trainees. |
| What
can you do? |
Drive one of our two vans, provided you are over
25 and have a clean driving licence. Help with
collections and deliveries, providing you are able to
lift a reasonable weight. Repair and upholster
furniture. Sort and display bric-a-brac, clothing and
furniture.
